Since 2005 this hunting dog training blog has been online and using a wordpress blog system. This is my training blog that shares my experiences with others with similar interests. I use it as an online journal of my hunting trips and dog training mistakes. Even though the blog is just a hobby for me, I get several emails a month asking me dog training questions. It has been fun to maintain this blog and share with others. It does very well in Google for many gun dog training related keywords and phrases.
My friend and dog training buddy Chris has been training pointing dogs for nearly 20 years. He asked me to help him build a website for his gun dog training business. I talked him into trying out the wordpress blog software and he took to it like a duck to water. The only problem that he has is in turning clients away as he gets way more phone calls and interest than he can handle. He trains dogs every day and then puts in a full day of work as a forest service wildlife biologist in Idaho. His kennel website has brought him dog training clients from 6 western states.
Annabella brittany kennels is my personal website for my little home grown american brittany hunting dogs. We had our first litter of puppies and I was able to get plenty of business from my kennel website.
LK farms was a project I did for a local farmer who makes his living selling and producing poultry and fresh produce. The site came together pretty well and we found a nice wordpress plugin for him to manage and send email newsletters to his customers. Although most of this website is static, it is still built on the wordpress blog software.
This website was a custom design we did for a client. For bigger jobs that require mysql databases and custom php coding I join forces with fellow designer CMS Geeks. Rooster valley wanted a calendaring system to schedule pheasant hunts for their clients and a custom admin area for posting hunt photos. I was able to apply my search engine optimization skills for this client and they currently enjoy top Google rankings for keywords like “Utah Pheasant Hunting” and “Utah Pheasant.
Performance diesel and machine was a bit challenging because of the cutting edge technology they were creating. The ideas and products were so new that there really weren’t any established keywords to target. The solution was to back up a step and focus on the industry that they were doing business in. The performance diesel industry.
Many people that have diesel powered trucks like to customize and upgrade their stock diesel engine to increase horsepower and speed. Cummins, powerstroke and duramax owners are always looking for ways to make their truck better than stock. PDM had some great how-to videos and PDF’s showing how their performance products were superior and how to install them.
For this wordpress powered website design we used the theme called Thesis. It cost around fifty bucks but gave us a lot of flexibility for using videos and images. The website is now 100% maintained by the owner of the business.
This was another project that I worked on with CMS Geeks. They are very good at creating custom content management systems using PHP and mySQL databases. My job again was more about keyword research and search engine marketing strategy. The website is still very new to the gamebird industry but is already profitable due to good rankings in Google. The project grew from just gamebirds into the poultry and waterfowl hatcheries as well. SEO begins at the purchase of the domain name and continues through the design process and into the content creation phase.
My friend asked me to help his daughter in marketing her homemade hair clips online. I had her choose a wordpress theme that she liked for a color scheme and basic layout. Then I customized it to work with her flower hair clips business. They couldn’t decide if they should market the product to dealers and stores or to the public. They had a good product and a good idea and we came up with a nice presentation for the internet. WordPress is a great tool for building custom websites and stores online.
This was another joint project I did with my coder friend John Jacks at CMSGeeks.com. He specializes in writing high-end content management systems using PHP and mySQL databases. For this website I had to do a lot of keyword research and SEO to make sure that the site performed well in the search engines like Google and Yahoo. The site was launched in 2006 and was soon one of the top performers in Google for keyword phrases like “hunting dogs”, “bird dogs” and “gun dogs”. The keyword research really paid off and the marketing strategy of the site is based on free organic search engine traffic.
